EXECUTION OF EXPLORATORY WORKS FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF GROUND INSTABILITY PHENOMENA IN THE SURROUNDING AREA OF THE CHURCH OF THE DORMITION OF THE VIRGIN MARY IN THE SETTLEMENT OF DIAKOS OF GREVENA / GREVENA REGIONAL UNIT

Project budget: 55.000,00 €
Subject

Exploratory drillings for the assessment of soil instability phenomena in the surrounding area of the church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary in the settlement of Diakos, Grevena.

Description
Diakos is an abandoned and remote village located approximately 19 km south of the city of Grevena and about 8 km southwest of the settlement of Agioi Theodoroi. A notable landmark of the area is the remarkable Church of the Virgin Mary, which exhibits significant structural failures due to a lack of maintenance and the influence of geological factors.
In addition to the church, severe damage has also been sustained by the old school building and other structures within the village. The Church of the Virgin Mary is considered an important architectural monument, and as such, urgent action is required to initiate its restoration.
The aim of the proposed study is to analyse the current condition of the site in order to identify the factors contributing to the observed instability phenomena.
The planned studies include:
Engineering geological study.
Topographic survey of approximately 6,000 m² at a 1:500 scale.
Geotechnical investigation and study.
Result

Enhancement of access safety to the area of the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary.
