ANKO Western Macedonia S.A.
ANKO Western Macedonia S.A. is an Organization for Local Development founded by local government authorities, public sector institutions, and collective organizations representing the agricultural sector and the region’s productive forces.
Establishment of ANKO
· Founded in 1985 (Law 1416/84) under the name Development Agency of Kozani (AN.KO.) S.A.
· In 1991, it was restructured as Development Agency of Western Macedonia (ANKO) S.A.
· In 2006, it was renamed Development Agency of Western Macedonia S.A. – Development Agency of Local Government Authorities (Anaptyxiaki A.E. OTA), with the trade name ANKO.
· In 2021, ANKO was transformed into Organization for Local Development in accordance with the new legal framework (Law 4674/2020), and its name was changed to ANKO Western Macedonia S.A.
Mission
The Organization’s mission is to support the integrated and sustainable development of Western Macedonia by providing a comprehensive range of services to both first and second-tier local authorities, as well as to stakeholders within the regional economic ecosystem.
To fulfill its mission, ANKO engages in:
· The design and implementation of baseline studies, development and operational programs and strategic planning initiatives.
· The implementation and supervision of technical studies and the management of major infrastructure projects.
· The implementation of development programs across sectors such as tourism, agriculture, industry and manufacturing, environmental protection, and services.
· The initiation and facilitation of investment projects aimed at leveraging the region’s natural resources.
· The enhancement of the operational capacity of local authorities, cooperative organizations, and other civic and social institutions.
· The provision of consulting services, tailored support, research, and information to the business community.
ANKO’s core message, encapsulating its vision and strategic objectives, is:
